January 14, 8:30 a.m.

Several weeks ago, the Richmond TEA Party endorsed its very own Jamie Radtke for US Senate. An endorsement, however, will not get her on the ballot. The rules for the Senate race require that each candidate file petitions with 10,000 validated signatures in order to be on the Republican primary ballot on June 12. The rules require that candidates could not begin gathering those signatures until January 1 and that they must be submitted by March 23. As you can see, a lot of work must be done over the next ten-plus weeks. Jamie would certainly appreciate the assistance of anyone able and willing to gather these signatures.

The first petition signing event occurred last Saturday, but it was just a start! The need is for RTP’ers to show up in mass to assist Jamie in gathering much needed signatures as well as educating the likely primary Republican voters who are to be contacted by all volunteers in this effort.

To make it easy and very convenient for us, Jamie and her staff have compiled pre-printed lists of local neighborhoods with maps/addresses of the designated homes to contact. And, the list can be completed over a four or five day period. A list can may include from ten to twenty addresses to be contacted.

If you are available, Jamie and her field staff will be welcoming volunteers at her campaign headquarters tomorrow, Saturday, January 14, 8:30 am. Jamie’s headquarters is located next to the RTP office at 9840 Midlothian Turnpike, 1.5 miles west of Powhite Parkway in Chesterfield County. For more information, you may contact Phil Rapp, RTP Executive Director, 804-441-3749 or philr@richmondteaparty.com. Jamie’s Field Director is Cole Muzio, at mailto:field@radtkeforsenate.comfield@radtkeforsenate.com or 804-451-5985, ext. 2.

Thank you and hope to see you tomorrow at Radtke for Senate headquarters!

Phil Rapp

The Hampton Roads Tea Party released its endorsement of US Senate candidate Jamie Radtke today. Mrs. Radtke is running for the republican nomination to replace outgoing US Senator Jim Webb, with the republican primary being held on June 12th, 2012. Mrs. Radtke lives in the Richmond area, and is the prior President of the Richmond Tea Party and is Chairwoman Emeritus of the Virginia Tea Party Patriots Federation (a coalition of various tea party/patriot groups from all across Virginia).

The details:

HRTP Endorses Mrs. Jamie Radtke for US Senate

The Hampton Roads Tea Party is pleased to announce its endorsement of Mrs. Jamie Radtke for US Senate. Her record of support for Constitutional limits on government, her work in opposing Obamacare in Virginia, and her complete dedication to the values of the tea party movement make her the preferred choice for US Senator from Virginia. If elected, we believe that Mrs. Radtke would best articulate and actualize the idea that limited government is best for the United States and would oppose any efforts to further increase the debt imposed on the citizens of our nation. She understands well the threat posed by efforts designed to attack the sovereignty of the United States and would be a powerful voice for change in the US Senate.

We arrived at this decision through the polling of the entire membership and the unanimous decision of the board in assessing the field of candidates, including declared candidates from Democratic and Republican parties in the balloting.

In assessing her candidacy, we see a path to victory that Mrs. Radtke is well equipped to take advantage of. With the support of thousands of liberty-minded individuals in Virginia, Mrs. Radtke can win the GOP nomination and defeat any likely candidate in the general election to become the first female US Senator from Virginia. We continue the spirit of 2010 as we encourage all who hold the values of limited government, Constitutionally protected rights, and personal responsibility as paramount considerations for office holders, to fully support her candidacy and the values that Mrs. Radtke stands for.

Please refer to http://radtkeforsenate.com/home/ for specific campaign information.

Jamie Radtke’s statement regarding President Obama’s “jobs speech”

President Obama’s speech proves one fact: He doesn’t understand how to get government out of the way of job creators. So he’s trying the same old approach that he already tried and that already failed and is just putting a new spin on it. He’s chasing the wrong rabbit.

There will be no real improvement in our economy until we adopt a credible, bold, long-term plan to reduce the debt and stop the insane spending. Every dollar the federal government spends is one less dollar in our wallets. Unfortunately most politicians in Washington suffer from collective denial on this matter.

Another ‘Stimulus Plan’ may sound good to the Keynesian liberals, but spending more money is going to drown our economy in an ocean of debt. It says to businessmen, entrepreneurs, investors and the world markets that President Obama does not understand how to solve the most critical problem facing the economy. Another massive ‘Obama Stimulus Plan’ will leave our economy in a deeper hole. To create jobs we need a bold, long-term plan to cut spending and a plan to overhaul our tax policy so that we can restore confidence and stability in our market again.

The best and perhaps only effective jobs program is one that enacts a Fair Tax policy and reduces our national debt to 40%-50% of GDP from its current level of 100% of GDP.

A combined commitment to the 40%-50% debt-to-GDP target and a Fair Tax policy would immediately jolt the economy. We would:

Bring back to the U.S. approximately $13 trillion dollars of capital that has fled overseas;

Give U.S. banks the ability to extend credit to job-creators in a way that the Fed is incapable of doing;

Preserve the dollar as the world’s reserve currency (and the advantages that status brings);

Level the playing field with China and other countries; and,

Stimulate private investment and the creation of new jobs as no stimulus program could.

Instead of bold action, we seem to be falling into the same old Washington way of dealing with economic crises — changing the subject, or passing the buck to another “commission” or “super-committee,” and pretending we can continue to put off hard decisions. That is what got us a $14.6 trillion national debt and more than 9% unemployment. We’ve had enough pandering and denial and we certainly don’t need half measures that suck money out of the private sector and into government. It’s time for bold leadership, and that is what I will bring to the United States Senate, and in support of the next Republican President of the United States in 2012.

As someone who worked closely with Jamie Radtke for over a year, I have to weigh in on this craziness going on between her and RedState.com. I’m not looking for a fight with limited government conservatives, though. I have my hands full battling the Big-Government progressives. My purpose in this post is simply to say that what I’m reading about Jamie does not resemble the person I came to know and respect in serving on the board of RTP.

RedState is running stories, claiming she gave a drunken (though they’ve somewhat retracted that one), rambling speech at their recent gathering. Really? Well, I can’t attest to the accuracy of that because I wasn’t there. And despite living in the Youtube age, curiously not one minute of video footage has been released from anyone to verify the charges against her. And now RedState editor Eric Erickson is walking back his previous endorsement of her, saying that she isn’t fit to be a U.S. senator.

One of the reasons I was so inspired to get involved in the Tea Party, despite my total political inaction prior to 2009, was because of Jamie’s incredible leadership skills. I’ve never met someone more able to inspire people to action and make a positive impact on their country and communities. She is passionate, intelligent, and a joy to serve with. And when running the Richmond Tea Party, she always acted with the utmost integrity and competence. And, by the way, she also delivers excellent speeches.

It’s a shame that this has all gone down like this. Whether you ultimately support Jamie or not in her bid to replace Jim Webb, she does not deserve this type of treatment. And if this hurts her campaign enough to help propel George Allen into becoming Virginia’s Republican nominee, you can be certain that we’ll be sending another establishment Republican—or Democrat—to ultimately do the bidding of his party, not the country.

But what I did not envision is that it would come at the hands of fellow conservatives. If you follow Virginia politics, you’ve probably seen some mention in the last two days of a scuffle between US Senate candidate Jamie Radtke (also Richmond Tea Party’s prior president) and Erick Erickson of the conservative blog, RedState.

Earlier this year, Erickson had endorsed Jamie’s candidacy, noting:

“I have met George Allen a number of times, like him tremendously, but I have personally decided to support Jamie Radtke for the Senate. Once someone has been beaten, I tend to think we need not run them again for the same seat. Republicans have a habit of doing that and, at this time, I think we need some fresh faces.”
Erick Erickson — RedState.com

However, when another blog (not RedState) indicated that Erick Erickson had admitted that he needed to essentially temper his support for Jamie due to his bosses’ relationship with Jamie’s primary opponent (George Allen), Erickson launched a very personal (and potentially libelous) attack against Jamie, including charges that she was drunk when speaking at a conference earlier this year.

I realize that many of you know Jamie, and that you know that these claims against her (you can find them online, I won’t give it any daylight here) are ridiculous. So here we are, facing unbelievable economic and political adversity, and we have to focus on conservative in-fighting within the republican party. Its one thing to have differences in a chosen political course, but its something altogether different to cross the line into character assassination. What makes matters worse is that there were some other Virginia entities that are considered “partners” in furthering conservative principles that forwarded/shared these allegations with their group’s members without even checking with Jamie’s campaign for a statement (again, I’m too disgusted to expose them here…you can search online for details).

So I guess I’m not surprised…it was inevitable that Jamie would be attacked, as her plainly spoken, no-nonsense conservative vision is a threat to the status quo. What *did* surprise me is how quickly people who *know better* were to join the character assassination. Perhaps this is just my naïveté showing as a political novice, that this is what I should expect when a tea party patriot throws his/her hat in the ring to run for office. Lesson learned.

To see Jamie’s response to the attack piece, head on over to her campaign website for details, text copied below:

Erick Erickson Owes Jamie Radtke and the Tea Party an Apology
Aug 25, 2011

Yesterday, on the front page of Redstate.com, Erick Erickson lashed out and wrote a blog smearing Jamie Radtke with completely false attacks by publishing libelous pejoratives in hopes of damaging her reputation.

Erickson wrote his column in response to a report on another blog that he had told Radtke, “My bosses are HUGE [George] Allen friends, not just fans. They are socially connected. So I’m having to tread carefully in this.”

Erickson, after confirming that he had made the statement, wrote a vicious blog that defamed Jamie’s character.

“Erick’s blog goes beyond the pale,” Radtke stated. “He crossed the line by publishing complete falsehoods. Now, it is his responsibility to admit he did wrong, set the record straight and apologize – and that is what I am asking Erick to do.

“This kind of scurrilous behavior and treatment has been repeatedly carried out on tea party leaders and conservative candidates who dare challenge the good ‘ole boy Washington Establishment. This attempt by the Washington Establishment to destroy the tea party and their candidates must stop. Enough is enough.

“What is most important is that we focus our attention on beating a President and his liberal Democrat friends who want to fundamentally change America. I encourage the tea party to stay determined and committed to fight back against the negative narrative on us and let’s defeat Obama and his liberal cohorts.”

Carter Wrenn, chief strategist for Radtke’s campaign, stated that a formal letter from legal counsel had been sent to Erickson demanding a retraction. “To put it as bluntly as possible,” Wrenn said, “Erick Erickson made an untrue and malicious attack on Jamie Radtke yesterday and repeated it again today. He should retract his statement, admit it is untrue and apologize for his mistake.”

Richmond Tea Party’s 3rd annual Tax Day Rally is just over two weeks away. It’s being held again at Kanawha Plaza in downtown Richmond from 5:00-8:00pm. The following is an interview I conducted with Phil Rapp, RTP’s vice president and co-chairman of the Tax Day Rally committee, about this year’s event.

1) What can RTP supporters expect from this year’s Tax Day Rally?

As with the prior two Tax Day Rallies, the Richmond Tea Party has a terrific list of patriots to send our “Taxed Enough Already” message to Washington! Among the speakers is Keynote speaker Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. Also a special visit by George Washington who will be sharing his thoughts on today’s tax issues but also interacting with attendees, so bring your children as well.

The Rally will start an hour earlier this year at 5:00pm with live music followed by the posting of the colors by the Boy Scouts of America escorted by the Pipes of Argile. Special guest Jewell Booker will lead us in the singing of the National Anthem. Made-to-order food vendor Papa John’s will also be onsite at Kanawa Plaza.

2) What is the theme of this year’s rally? What message do you hope to send to politicians?

The theme is: “Stop the In$anity”. The message is clear: our elected officials MUST bring our fiscal house into balance, now! The November elections were an indictment and an edict for those citizens sent to Washington to take our country back, beginning with making the tough decisions to eliminate the deficit by slashing spending.

3) Who will be speaking and on what topics?

Doc Thompson has agreed to MC the Rally once again this year! In addition to ongoing spot-on commentary from Doc, other speakers include Keynote Speaker Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, who will provide an update of Virginia’s litigation on ObamaCare and other initiatives from the Attorney General’s office; past RTP Board President Jamie Radtke will review the current fiscal mess that continues to go unresolved by Congress; Joe Guarino, RTP Board member and Chairman of RTP’s Legislative Committee, will give us a summary of the 2011 General Assembly actions, with particular comments on the Senate’s arbitrary rule changes occurring at mid-session; Sonnie Johnson, born and raised in Richmond, will share her views on spreading the wealth; Jamie Jacoby, RTP volunteer, will also provide details on the fiscal status of the country; RTP volunteer Kristen Schussler will be talking about the impact of unemployment on the college grads; and RTP Board member and Chairman of the Outreach Committee Gilbert Wilkerson along with volunteer Spencer Logan will share successes in RTP’s community outreach efforts. George Washington will also make an appearance with comments about leading a tax revolution!

4) Why is it important for people to come to Tax Day Rally?

The Tax Day Rally is an opportunity to hear local citizens speak to the issues that affect all of us. Those in Washington still trying to ignore us MUST know that we are as active and engaged as ever and will NEVER stop holding their feet to the fire.

The event is family friendly at a site perfect for everyone to gather, grab a bite to eat and enjoy great live music and inspirational and challenging messages of the day! Bring a lawn chair and enjoy! It’s also free!

5) How can people get involved in helping?

Go to our website and sign up! www.richmondteaparty.com.

We also need donations to defray the cost of the rally. Please go to our website and make a donation of any amount to help us with this event! Thank you!

Congress Fails to Learn Lessons from the Midterm Elections
Legislature changes school menus but does nothing to reduce spending or the debt

Richmond, Va. – The Richmond Tea Party is seeing little if any indication that Congress or Republican leadership has learned the lessons of the November mid-term elections.

Addressing the recent activities in the lame duck Congress, Jamie Radtke, President of the Richmond Tea Party, said, “Congress continues to demonstrate their inability to do anything outside of ‘business as usual’ and continues on a course that recklessly endangers the nation.”

In the weeks since the November elections, Congress has focused on: changing local school menus, forcing state and local law enforcement authorities into collective bargaining, granting citizenship to certain illegal aliens, extending unemployment benefits, creating huge regulatory burdens on small farmers, and deciding whether to increase estate and income taxes.

Meanwhile, there has been no action to reduce spending or debt.

“Instead of putting our school children on a Washington-mandated diet, Congress should be putting the government itself on a strict diet!” said Radtke. “The voters sent a clear message: stop the runaway spending and unsustainable borrowing. Americans want cooperation, not just for the sake of cooperation, but to avert the fiscal collapse that is sure to come if spending and borrowing are not brought under control.”

The tax deal legislation being considered does not cut spending, but instead adds more spending and increases the deficit.

“Congress should be cutting spending drastically, not merely avoiding more debt, and certainly not adding to the unacceptable deficit we now have, as the pending legislation does,” Radtke said. “This shows that President Obama and this lame duck Congress aren’t willing to tackle the gravest problem facing the nation. They refuse to accept the will of the voters.”

Even more disconcerting are the recent committee appointments by Republican Leadership. Congressman Fred Upton was appointed chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee and Congressman Hal Rogers to chair the powerful House Appropriations Committee.

“It is hard to believe that the Republican leadership’s response to one of the greatest political upheavals in American history, which put Republicans back in power, is to appoint Fred “The Light Bulb Ban Bandit” Upton and Hal “Prince of Pork” Rogers to chairmanships,” said Radtke.

“The Republicans are already demonstrating a return to dysfunctional politics,” Radtke continued. “If this is any indicator of what is ahead for us in 2011, it will be unacceptable to an overwhelming majority of Republican, Democrat, Independent and Tea Party Americans. We don’t need shameless spenders and unrestrained regulators in charge of the House. Congress had better make serious spending cuts a priority. Nothing else is acceptable. The tea party was serious when we said the GOP is on probation.”

On biggovernment.com, our own Jamie Radtke said this:

Republicans cannot afford to play politics at the margins, focus more on maintaining their power rather than changing Washington, or return us to the business-as-usual approach of “plodding along.” It isn’t often that one can claim to speak for the entire tea party movement without swift rebuke, but I feel confident in saying that the tea parties will not tolerate timid or self-motivated politics.

The stakes could not be higher. Americans are threatened with a disastrous fiscal collapse unless immediate and drastic action is taken to address the underlying causes. Neither major party has had the political fortitude to offer such a plan. The Republican Pledge to America released in September was plainly inadequate. The tea parties demand courageous action – now.

She goes on to list precisely what the new majority needs to do…or start looking for work themselves in two years. Read her entire piece here.
