Protest tomorrow at State Capitol, Bell Tower at 11am. We will be protesting the State Senate trying to bury our 10th Amendment bill, the Firearm Freedom Act (HB69). This is the LAST chance to let the State Senate know you are not happy! We want our 10th Amendment bill released from Committee! We will also be joining AFP in a protest against a 24% tax increase on all phone lines.

Speakers include Tito the Builder, Delegate Bill Carrico (patron of HB69), Joe Guarino of Richmond Tea Party and more! Free lunch is being provided by AFP at the Omni after the protest. Come and let the State Senate know what the 10th Amendment means to you! We cannot grow weary.

Here is an email we received from Donna Holt of Campaign for Liberty, who has been a tremendous leader in helping shepherd through these 10th Amendment bills:

In a 4 – 1 vote in the House Militia, Police and Public Safety Subcommittee #1,
HB 69, the VA Firearms Freedom Act, was recommended to be reported by the full MPPS Committee to the full House for a vote. It was a party vote with the 4 Republicans in favor and the lone Democrat opposed. The recommendation is non-binding. The bill will come before the full MPPS Committee next week.

There was much opposition testimony by those who believe that guns kill. I’ve never seen a gun law that reformed a criminal or prevented them from getting guns. Imagine how life would be if everyone felt that way. You and I would be defenseless against an arsenal of weapons any criminal is able to obtain regardless of gun laws that restrict them. [RTP Sidenote: Not to mention that it is a right in the Constitution. We support the entire Constitution, not just selective parts.]

The feeling is that this bill will pass the full committee. The real battle will be in the Senate. We will need ALL HANDS ON DECK when it comes up on the Senate side with as many patriots in attendance and willing to give testimony in support of the bill as possible.

I will keep you updated as the bill moves forward and alert you to the meeting of the full MPPS Committee on HB69.

Richmond Tea Party met with the Virginia Speaker of the House, Bill Howell, last week regarding our two federalism bills. The Speaker expressed support for both bills and assured us they would make it out of Committee in the House of Delegates. He was also encouraging that these would pass the House.

The first bill, the Health Care Reform Act, chief co-patroned by Delegate O’Bannon and Marshall, would:

“…nullify any federal law, rule or regulation that: 1) requires individuals or employers to participate in any particular health care system or 2) mandates the purchase of health insurance. It would prohibit any fine or penalty on anyone or any company for deciding to purchase health care directly.”

The second bill, the Firearm Freedom Action, patroned by Delegate Carrico, would:

“Declares that any firearms made and retained in-state are beyond the authority of the U.S. Congress under its constitutional power to regulate commerce among the states.”

What do we need from you? This is CRITICALLY important. We need you to call and email your delegate and ask them to co-sponsor these two bills. You can find out who your delegate is by going to “Who’s My Legislator?”

You need to call and email before January 14th!!!!

We will need to work on the Senate side as well. Info forthcoming…

Two follow these two bills closely, please bookmark http://www.va10thamendment.org
