Greetings fellow Patriots!

Wow! What a week for the Richmond Tea Party! I almost don’t even know where to begin. Let’s start with the IRS scandal. A couple of weeks ago, the IRS apologized for specifically targeting Tea Party (and other conservative) groups. The Richmond Tea Party is the “poster child” for all victims of the IRS attack, since our experience encapsulates what has happened on a broader scale. We applied for tax-exempt status in December ’09, and did not receive approval until July of 2012 (even then, only through congressional intervention)! This was an intentional slowdown on the part of the government, with the purpose of hindering or destroying those who disagree politically. Our organization was barraged by intrusive and personal questions from the IRS, many completely outside the requirements for determining our status as a 501(c)(4). The IRS wished to see all communications, member-only web pages, donor lists, and vast amounts of other information, all of which would have given government officials detailed information about our organization, our members, and our associations with others. This is government over-reach at its worst! The very government charged with protecting your rights, instead aggressively attempted to destroy your rights to free speech, free association, and protection from unwarranted search of your papers and possessions. Think about it—the IRS is the most powerful arm of the government (second only to the military) and was targeted squarely at you! This raises the question—“Is this still America?”

BUT….we are fighting back…and winning! In the past week, the Richmond Tea Party has been able to tell its story on CBS Evening News, Greta’s “On the Record” show on FoxNews, Rush Limbaugh, CNN, local TV stations, as well as radio shows and major news publications, such as the Washington Post, the New York Times, the UK Guardian, and the “holy grail” of news, the global AP wire service. What’s more, we were included in the Michele Bachmann press conference (also present were Senators Cruz, Paul, Lee, and several liberty-minded congressmen), where we made valuable contacts and gained vital support. In addition, some Richmond Tea Party members were invited as special guests at the congressional IRS hearings, followed by a private interview with Majority Leader Eric Cantor. This opportunity was not wasted, as a discussion ensued about the possibility of completely doing away with the current tax code.

In March, I wrote to you and said this—“we are in a battle for the very survival of our Nation. We must unite and fight together! Armed with the vision and Constitution of our Founding Fathers, and with the determination to crush those who would dare trample our liberty underfoot, we will battle our way back to the America we long to restore. What you do here, in Virginia, will ripple through governments around the globe.” Now you see it has become reality. We are fighting and winning against the oppressive tyranny of our own government (channeled through the IRS), and the world is listening to our message.

Next, I would be remiss if I did not mention the Republican Party of Virginia (RPV) Convention. Ken Cuccinelli, Mark Obenshain, and E.W. Jackson won the day. These three candidates can carry the ideals of the Tea Party forward, but not without your vigilance. The election in November will be a crucial one for the Commonwealth and for the Nation! Get involved!

We are making a difference! Keep fighting!

Larry Nordvig
Executive Director

Treading on Us….

As reported Friday, a senior executive for the IRS (Lois Lerner) admitted that tea party and patriot groups had been inappropriately targeted for additional reviews, specifically regarding requests for non-profit tax status. These reviews contained requests for information that were intrusive and offensive in nature, further delaying non-profit status requests from being granted in a timely manner while costing tea party groups legal/preparation fees and a tremendous amount of administrative time to prepare responses.

As you may remember, Richmond Tea Party was one of those groups targeted (see HERE for refresher). This is a very dynamic issue that is developing rapidly. We are currently assessing our options and will take additional action as appropriate when more details are known.

Please see below for many links detailing what’s happening on this issue.

Update: Senior IRS officials evidently knew about the inappropriate reviews back in 2011, contradicting prior statements.

Greetings Fellow Patriots!

“Fight!” That was the theme of our meeting on Thursday night. If we are to restore the Republic, we must fight for it, as did our patriot forefathers. I was heartened to see a “packed house” at our meeting. Many more emailed me and expressed their regret that they were unable to attend. It appears that the opposition has “awakened the sleeping giant,” known as the Richmond Tea Party. Our “Action Teams” are filling with volunteers, and many have already received their “marching orders” and are actively engaged in restoring our Nation. Additional volunteers will be launching out this week. If you haven’t heard from me yet…you will! All I ask from you is whatever time you can give (a half hour, two hours, or 40 hours per month), plus a little bit extra! We are, after all, at war for our liberty. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so sacrifice!

On Thursday, I spoke of the fighting spirit of John Paul Jones. It bears repeating, so that you’ll know what measure of devotion is required of you in this hour.

In 1779, Revolutionary War hero John Paul Jones commanded the ship Bonhomme Richard (a French name meaning “Good Man Richard,” alluding to “Poor Richard’s Almanac,” published by Ben Franklin). On September 23rd of that year, he sighted several ships in convoy and moved in to attack. However, the British ship HMS Serapis, commanded by Captain Richard Pearson, moved to intercept Jones. You must understand that HMS Serapis was one of the finest ships in the large British Navy. Captain Pearson was considered among their best. The crew was manned by crack sailors, highly organized, who knew their business. HMS Serapis also sported more guns, and of heavier weight, than the Bonhomme Richard. The “upstart Americans” were outnumbered, outgunned, and outclassed.

Sound familiar? Today, many Tea Party folks like to moan and wring their hands, saying that we are all but beaten by the Progressives (Red Coats) and the RINOs (Tories and Turncoats) of our day…we’re past the “tipping point,” why not just give up? Let’s look further at how John Paul Jones handled his similar situation.

Jones attacked! The two ships opened up with almost simultaneous broadsides from their fearsome cannon! Smoke, dust, and splinters flew everywhere. The decks were soon slick with blood. Almost immediately, most of Jones heavier guns were out of action. As the battle continued to rage, Jones realized that he must try to board the British ship. But, his boarding party was slaughtered as they climbed aboard the enemy ship. Jones was soon in a desperate situation. Already, dozens of fires had broken out, the deck was in danger of collapse, many of the guns and crew were now silent, and the British were as determined as ever. It was at this point that Captain Pearson called over to Jones, “Has your ship struck?” For the American Captain, there was no hand-wringing, no despair. Instead, John Paul Jones answered back with a rallying cry that rings down to us in the present day, “I have not yet begun to fight!” The murderous pounding went on for 3 1/2 hours. Jones’ ship was shattered, on fire, and slowly sinking. His own Chief Gunner cried, “Quarter, quarter, for God’s sake!” Jones knocked him down with a pistol! The Captain then manned a gun himself and fired repeatedly into the British mainmast until it tottered ominously. Finally, Captain Pearson surveyed the damage to his own ship and crew, grabbed the British flag (which his crew had nailed to the mast as a pledge to never surrender) and tore it down. As Pearson came over to Jones’ ship to give up his sword, the British mainmast crashed into the water. The seemingly invincible HMS Serapis had been all but destroyed. Jones then boarded the British ship and took it as his prize!

Sometime later, John Paul Jones was informed that Captain Pearson had been made a knight due to his gallant action in the battle. Jones responded, “Should I have the good fortune to fall in with him again, I’ll make him a lord!”

Do things look grim, even desperate, for you liberty-minded patriots of today? Do the tyrants of our time seem all but invincible? There’s a solution…fight like John Paul Jones! Get on board with the Richmond Tea Party; man your post in one of our “Action teams,” and fight to restore the Republic! Take our Nation back as a prize! Our situation may look bad, but I can assure you, the Richmond Tea Party has “not yet begun to fight!”

Kevin Jackson of The Blacksphere said on his visit here with Joe “the Plumber” in 2011 that Richmond Tea Party was changing the face of the Tea Party nationally with the Minority Outreach Committee. Richmond is one of a very few in the country to offer such outreach.

In addition to the current 888 program that is designed and run by RTPMOAC 2 times a month for children in a local section 8 housing complex, RTPMOAC is planning to bring the monumental documentary “Runaway Slave” to Richmond for a free viewing event in the minority community. Our goal is to bring this very important documentary to Richmond THIS SUMMER! But we need your help. With over 4000 people signed up for RTP’s emails, if every one gave just $2 we would have all the money needed for this mega-event including speakers, venue and an advertising budget to blanket the community with ads to attract the largest crowd possible. For donations of $250 or more, donors will receive reserved seats at the event and a VIP reception. (We would also welcome donations from anyone who can offer catering services, t-shirt printing, AV services and advertising.)

If you can help with this important outreach event, please contribute here, and be sure to direct your donation the outreach committee on the donation form, so that we’ll know to assign your donation appropriately.

Thank you for any assistance you may provide, and watch for more activity on this initiative soon!

Greetings Fellow Patriots!

There will be a special meeting of the Richmond Tea Party on Thursday, May 2nd at 7 p.m.

This is an important meeting, and you are strongly encouraged to attend! The main purpose of the meeting is to inform our supporters of the results from the recent “candidate vetting weekend,” sponsored by the Virginia Tea Party Patriot Federation and the Middle Resolution PAC.

Hundreds of Tea Party members from all over the Commonwealth spent two days listening to each candidate answer an identical list of questions involving issues and principles held dear by all true patriots. The participants considered the answers carefully, and then gave each response a score. These scores were then combined and used to rank the 7 candidates for Lt. Governor and the 2 candidates for Attorney General. The results of that ranking will be made available at the meeting.

If you are a delegate to the GOP Convention in May, these rankings will be of great benefit in deciding how to cast your vote! Remember, there is bound to be more than one round of balloting. You need to have more than one candidate in mind, in case your “favorite” doesn’t make it to the final round! We recommend you have a “top 3.” This meeting will help you identify those 3 candidates. Even if you are not a delegate, you will find this information informative and useful for the election in November. This is a tremendous opportunity for Tea Party supporters to have a major impact on the election of true, liberty-minded conservatives! We’re taking the Country back! Don’t miss out!

Also, we will take the opportunity to begin filling positions in our new “Action Teams.” You can begin “making a difference” by joining a team that fits your interest and talents. Our teams cover such areas as public relations, marketing, outreach, writing, research, IT support, government affairs, activism, and more! The best cure for frustration is action! You’ll be put to work right away in manageable, but meaningful assignments. Come and see where you can “plug in” to make a real difference!

The location of the meeting is Grace Alive Outreach Church, 4912 E. Millridge Pkwy. Midlothian, VA 23112. The Church is in the Market Square shopping center, near the intersection of Old Hundred Rd. and Hull St. (Rte. 360). The Church is at the southern end of the shopping area.

We look forward to seeing you at the meeting!

For Liberty!

Your Richmond Tea Party Volunteer Team

With little fanfare, the House quickly voted Friday to repeal a financial transparency requirement for senior government officials, which was part of a much-heralded government transparency bill last year.

Members passed S. 716 by unanimous consent, with no debate and no description on the floor about what the bill would do. The Senate passed it in the same fashion on Thursday.

The bill amends the Stop Trading On Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act, which was passed last year on the heels of complaints that members of Congress and senior officials are using their government knowledge to enrich themselves through stock trades or other actions.

OF COURSE your elected government servants are working to limit transparency. Anything that would inhibit their ability to raise revenue by the power of their position must not be tolerated. Don’t you feel like a sucker?

From the Executive Director

Greetings, fellow Patriots!

It seems every week the national and local news gets worse. Just within the past 2 weeks we’ve had our elections “nationalized” through executive order, unemployment numbers unmasked an abysmal picture of the job market, 2nd Amendment rights continued to be assaulted, apparently another massive cache of bullets was ordered by the federal government, and a “secret” deal to allow illegal aliens citizenship was being crafted. Right here in the Commonwealth, the Transportation (Tax) Bill not only survived, but was actually made worse through amendments! Our own “conservative” Republican representatives fleeced the flock with an unnecessary tax hike, well beyond the wildest dreams of even the greediest of Democrats. Worse yet, they allowed Obamacare into the Commonwealth! Things are going from bad to worse in a hurry! What to do?

I’ll tell you what we can do—plenty! The Richmond Tea Party is swinging into action! Our robo-call campaign against those who voted for the Transportation (Tax) Bill (HB2313) has awakened their constituents, put delegates on notice that their actions are unacceptable, and (most importantly) laid the foundation for future campaigns to “throw the bums out” and replace them with true Patriots! The RTP is also creating a network of cooperation with like-minded groups. In the last two weeks, I have met with leaders of the Virginia Tea Party Patriots Federation, the Henrico Tea Party, Mechanicsville tea Party, Peninsula Patriots, and the 1st District Alliance (made up of leaders from the 1st Congressional District). All have offered mutual cooperation. I believe strongly in a concentration of forces to achieve victories!

We are advancing in other areas, as well. The Richmond Times-Dispatch published a ½-page piece on the goals of the Richmond Tea Party in last Sunday’s paper, which gave us positive exposure to millions of readers (I must add that the T-D was very professional, friendly, and fair). In addition, 20 RTP supporters are getting ready to attend a candidate “vetting” at the end of the month, which will enable us to ask questions of every candidate running for Lt. Gov. and Attorney General. This will aid us in choosing the most liberty-minded candidates to support at the GOP Convention in May.

Probably the most important development in the fight against our enemies is happening right here within the Richmond tea Party—the renewed enthusiasm of our own volunteers! Recent offers of time, talent, and resources have been very uplifting! Now, we’re ready for action! In the next couple of weeks, we will initiate Operation “Local Action,” through which local and state politicians will be monitored, engaged, and held accountable by “We the People.” Other “Action Teams” will soon be involved in outreach, P/R, marketing, activism, education, government affairs, research and training. Moreover, plans are being laid for the replacement of incumbents who have recently proven “unfaithful.”

So, when the next batch of bad news comes along, don’t just scream at the television or rip up the newspaper. Instead, do something about it! Join us, fight back, and win!

In Liberty,

Larry Nordvig
