Keep doing what you’re doing out there…tea party groups continue to flex their muscles. We can make a difference when we all get involved!

WASHINGTON (AP) — An insurgent Republican lawmaker in Nebraska will square off against former Sen. Bob Kerrey this fall in the state’s U.S. Senate race, as Democrats look to hold onto the Senate seat and control of one part of Capitol Hill.

In Tuesday’s Republican primary, state Sen. Deb Fischer rode a wave of discontent with the GOP establishment to best Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning, the preferred candidate of Washington, D.C.-based Republicans, and Treasurer Don Stenberg in a race that drew national attention from outside groups in its final, unpredictable weeks.

The outcome underscored years-old divisions within the GOP, and set the stage for a competitive general election race that could determine the balance of power in the U.S. Senate.

Fischer’s victory marked also another win for the party’s anti-establishment movement just a week after a tea party-supported Richard Mourdock beat Indiana Sen. Richard Lugar in that state’s GOP primary.

The Greek exit from the Eurozone, and from the Euro currency, is back on the table. Can the can be kicked down the road further still? Are we running out of road?

Even his majesty Chief Keynesian Cheerleader Paul Krugman is admitting it:

From Krugman’s Blog:

Some of us have been talking it over, and here’s what we think the end game looks like:

1. Greek euro exit, very possibly next month.

2. Huge withdrawals from Spanish and Italian banks, as depositors try to move their money to Germany.

And we’re talking about months, not years, for this to play out. [emphasis added, with a shout out to the commenter over at bearingdrift who told me that LTRO was working just great]

BTW, a period of “huge withdrawals from banks” is otherwise known as a “bank run.” And as for that being the “end game,” this seems to be more deflection by his highness, as it looks to me more like “the beginning of the end game.” According to Willem Buiter, chief economist at Citi, a Greek exit would result in a “deep coercive restructuring” of Greek debt, including government debt. For anyone who doesn’t know what those three words mean when used together, they mean this: anyone who has lent money to the Greek government or Greek banks is likely to never see any of it again.

Those “anyones” who are going to get stiffed include banks in other EU nations, as well as ECB itself. Why does that matter?

It matters because of this very excellent chart over at NYT, aptly named “Europe’s Web Of Debt. Please follow link to view the chart in a readable size.

A Greek exit from the Euro and default on all Euro-denominated debt could vaporize somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 Billion Euro from the banking system. What happens next?

Again from Mr. Buiter’s piece:

In the case of a confrontation-driven Greek exit from the euro area, we would therefore expect to see around a 90 percent NPV cut in its sovereign debt, with 100 percent NPV losses on all debt issued under Greek law, including the debt held, directly or directly, by the ECB/Eurosystem. We would also expect 100 percent NPV losses on the loans by the Greek Loan Facility and the EFSF to the Greek sovereign.

Euro area membership is a two-sided commitment. If Greece fails to keep that commitment and exits, the remaining members also and equally fail to keep their commitment. This is not just a morality tale. It has highly practical implications. When Greece can exit, any country can exit. If we look at the austerity fatigue and resistance to structural reform in the rest of the periphery and in quite a few core euro area countries, it is not plausible to argue that the Greek case is completely unique and that its exit creates no precedent. Despite the fact that both Greece’s fiscal situation and its structural, supply-side economic problems are by some margin the most severe in the euro area, Greece’s exit would create a powerful and highly visible precedent. As soon as Greece has exited, we expect the markets will focus on the country or countries most likely to exit next from the euro area.

Now go back to the NYT chart “Europe’s Web Of Debt,” and recall that unemployment in Spain right now is 24%, with youth unemployment over 50%. According to the Centre For Economic Policy Research:

…the mix of expansionary macroeconomic policies must be changed. At the current rate of accumulation of public debt, more fiscal toughness is essential, leaving only one alternative for demand expansion, that is, more relaxed monetary policies.

Realistically, such policies will produce a depreciation of the exchange rate, an impossible condition if Spain is to be a founder member of a European monetary union. But if sustained growth requires currency depreciation, then it must be allowed to happen.

As everyone knows, “more relaxed monetary policies” and “currency depreciation” are code words for “printing money.” And since ECB rules absolutely forbid members from printing money, guess what Spain does next?

No more Cookies For Dinner, I suppose.

If you listen to the media, the tea party is “dead” or “dying”. Nothing could be further from the truth. While it is true that there is less rallying and sign waving, the “good” work is being done in the background, building infrastructure and organizing for the long haul. This is discussed in a recent American Thinker article:

The Tea Party did not just have a “comeback” in Indiana. The fact is that they never left in the first place. They’ve been working. Watching and waiting for the chance to make their wishes known. They are eager. Excited. And dedicated to their cause. The cause of a free nation and a free people.

Politicians of both parties should take notice. To ignore the Tea Party is to tempt fate and to risk being thrown overboard, like former Senator Richard Lugar, and like those 342 crates — some 45 tons — of English tea floating in Boston Harbor on December 16, 1773.

Your efforts ARE having an impact. Even something as simple as having that honest conversation with your neighbors about concern for the direction of the country, it all matters. So remain focused, stay energized, and keep fighting the good fight!

This post originally ran May 7, 2012 on her blog, SOAR WITH EAGLES. She wrote it and e-mailed it around, knowing that if we don’t gather enough people to stand against an out-of-control government NOW, we will soon no longer have the ability to stand. If you’re interested in standing with the Richmond Tea Party this election cycle, volunteer for our elections committee today.

—-

Many of you may recall my SOAR WITH EAGLES article on September 12th, “True Americans,” about Colonel John Kelly, my 4th great-grandfather who fought in the Revolutionary War alongside General George Washington and others.

In the article, I wondered when good people would step forward to stand up to our current Big Government of both Democrats and Republicans, who by increasing the size of our government are ignoring our Constitution and stripping every American of their rights.

Who are those good people who need to step forward? Friend, those good people are you and me.

What does it take to step forward and say no more outrageous government spending that will enslave us and our children for generations to come? What does it take to say that we will not have our Constitution ignored or rewritten? What does it take to say our country needs to remain a democratic republic and not a Socialist country?

What does it take? For starters, pray and ask God what He would have YOU do. Pray right now. Don’t put it off or you won’t do it.

Do you want some suggestions as to what you can do?

Register to vote. Do it now. Don’t wait until later.

Decide which candidates you want to support. Thoroughly research those candidates. Ask questions. Make sure those candidates stand for what you believe in. Do not choose a candidate simply based on party affiliation. Do not choose because someone else tells you who they want you to vote for. God gave you a mind. The Founding Fathers gave you a vote. Use them.

How do you do this research? Can you ask questions? Can you read? I thought so. Well then, call the candidate’s office and ask questions, ask what the candidate’s platform is. The candidate doesn’t have a platform? Run.

You don’t know who the candidates are? Dear Father, help us; we are in trouble.

Once you choose a candidate, volunteer for them. Stuff envelopes, man the phone bank, put a sign in your yard, talk with people. Lazy people will not do any of these things. But they will complain when gas prices increase. They will not like it when their once extra money is taxed to pay the deficit. Turn the boob tube off and get out of your chair.

Research the Tea Party. The Democrats have slandered the Tea Party all the way to hell itself. Congresswoman Maxine Waters publicly stated that “The Tea Party can go straight to hell.” Why? Because Maxine and her party know that publicly slandering someone or something drives most people away from it.

Because they know that the Tea Party members have taken a stand against out-of-control government spending that MUST BE PAID FOR AT SOME POINT.

The Tea Party realizes that those in power, both Republicans and Democrats, want to ignore the Constitution, make their own rules as they go along, and grow the government so big that it controls the people. Not the other way around like our Founding Fathers intended.

Do you even know what the Founding Fathers intended for our country? Well don’t feel bad; until four years ago, I didn’t either. But it’s not too late to learn. I’ll do future articles on this.

If you are spending your free time watching mindless shows on TV that will never improve your life or mind, stop it. Stop your foolishness. While you’ve focused on mindless folly, you weren’t able to see that you’ve been losing your American rights and freedoms. Start paying attention to what is happening in our government. Then get off your chair, pray, and take a stand. While you still can.

I don’t know about you, but I will not let my ancestor or our Founding Fathers – all who put their lives, their families’ lives, their finances and their properties on the line for you and me – have made all of these personal sacrifices in vain.

So, I ask: Are you one of those good people who will step forward and do what you can to take our Constitution and our once-great country back?

I’m taking that step forward. I’m making that stand. Will you?

“Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto the inhabitants thereof…” Leviticus 25:10. This is also inscribed on the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

(Reuters) – The would-be suicide bomber in a plot by al Qaeda’s Yemeni affiliate was planted in the group by an allied intelligence agency or turned into an informant early in the conspiracy, U.S. officials said on Tuesday.

The CIA and its foreign partners tracked the plot for several weeks and then managed to get the informant to deliver the bomb outside Yemen, possibly to Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates, sources said.

“Managed to get [him] to deliver the bomb…”? Do they mean, told him to do so if he wanted to get paid?

The New York Times reported the would-be suicide bomber was an intelligence agent for Saudi Arabia who volunteered for the mission to detonate the bomb aboard a U.S.-bound airliner.

I truly hope no one actually fell for this one.
