How many ways can one say, “mistake”?
Republican convention went off the “cliffs of insanity” with this one.

For heaven’s sake, what were they thinking?
Is this a glimpse of what Republican good judgment looks like?

This was the last night of the Republican convention.
    And we are given this?

Try as I may, will I ever be able to erase the image of my favorite actor/director playing the part of a demented, crazed old man?

But as bad as this is, what does it say for a Republican party that can have so little sense as to allow this to happen?

Liberty and freedom are risky business. When Mr Eastwood threw away his planned speech he modeled “going with your gut”. Lots of alarmists are throwing around rhetorical questions but I believe Clint’s heart was following the same theme that was evidenced with the other speakers. Namely, that we need some basic down to earth common sense to prevail. The steady and stable tone of the entire event was what we needed and we needed what Mr Eastwood provided as well. The candidates were shown to be nice guys but we needed those moments that were more “in your face” also. “Cliffs of Insanity” or not, Clint spoke for me and anyone that can’t handle a little Press Club sytle humor is not going to be able to roll with the punches of public life. It has certainly given democrats an opportunity to show NO sense of humor and normal people can’t relate to that. We use humor to get thru the day and pardon me but “As bad as Biden” is now in our national lexicon.

ps Does anyone else remember the Hollywood fund-raiser that was done after 9/11? Hollywood was proudly going on camera with no make-up,all-natural faces. We were shown tender moments of encouragement and musical enticements. After one particularly beautiful artist playing a particularly beautiful song and the camera panning back… in a word… soulful – remember that sudden close up of Clint Eastwood. ARGHH!! A face of crags and clifts, wild grey hair and deep dark eye sockets – waaaay too close up and intense. After we composed ourselves and listened to him; we forgave them for shocking us. He may be a wealthy director but he started out as Rowdy and he is still one of us.
